Reader Response NBC Universial development -- too big?
Do you think NBC Universal's proposed $800 million expansion of Universal City is too big?

I'm very happy that the Board of the Studio City Chamber of Commerce supported my motion to withdraw its support of the NBC / Universal and Thomas Properties expansion project until further investigation has been concluded.
Our discussion about this was triggered by the developer claiming in one of their mailers to Valley residents that the Studio City Chamber endorses the project, which was not the understanding of the Chamber Board.
With respect to the project and its size, while some of the arguments the developer has made in the past may have some merit and some of the elements of the proposed project sound intriguing and may even be necessary, I feel that is too early for anyone to issue blanket endorsements until all the aspects of the project have been disclosed and Traffic Studies and Environmental Impact Reports have been published and can be discussed.
Personally, as a business owner and resident of Studio City and the San Fernando Valley, I simply could not consider supporting a project of this magnitude without very serious traffic mitigation and a full picture of the impact this will have on our environment.
I like the proposed development and what is signifies for Los Angeles. It's about time that the Valley started getting investment. Normally everything is in downtown Los Angeles.
I don't think the development is too big as it is on top of the red line. Isn't that where density is supposed to be? Have you seen Hollywood Highland or the plans for North Hollywood? I like it!
I am up early as I have a shift this morning on the picket line. At a time when we don't know how long we will be walking and at a time when the economy is in a free fall I find it strange that no one celebrates entertainment industry jobs coming to Lankershim. The project isn't too big as long as it brings good paying jobs, jobs, jobs!
I don't know if it is too big as I don't know enough about it. If it means that Universal will be remaining in California or Los Angeles, then I think it is a good thing.
First let's hear their plan for dealing with the added congestion. I don't want Studio City and environs made any more crowded and gridlocked than it already is.

Now the Tonight show can say "live from Los Angeles." Yeah, Los Angeles!
