David Beckham: Los Angeles Sports Person of the Year 2007
The Daily News has named Galaxy midfielder David Beckham the Los Angeles Sports Person of the Year for 2007. It's not because he enjoyed a great rookie season in MLS, made the Galaxy a champion, bent U.S. eyes to the original football, beat back global cynicism and earned acclaim as a hero. It's because of his think-big spirit, the way he widened our view of sports, the commitment with which he took on both naysayers and unreasonable expectations.
Does Becks deserve the recognition? Can you name anyone more influential this year?

oh yes! yes! yes! he truly deserves it! at least..even though he hasn't played much as expected, he has opened the eyes of American people towards the world of sports. he has made Americans realized that there're more things happening (in sports view) in the world except for American sports. and with what he has achieved this year..he deserves not just this award, but also other sports award throughout the world.

Because celebrities gave him /wife a welcoming party doe not qualify him for SPORTSMEN OF THE YEAR. Anyone on the Laker/Clipper and or Kings and Duck Benches are more qualified. He has more injury time. He qualifies for most injury and party time for an over paid part-time soccer player than ever before in the history of sports. Thank U NO>>>

Oh, please. A mere blip on the radar screen of LA Sports. Though a galvanizing figure, Kobe is far more influential.

Are you guys kidding me, Beckham? This is the best you can do? You people are pathetic as far as sports goes.

What did this guy do? Answer: nothing. How about Russell Martin?? Maybe your paper should merge with the Star, Enquirer or one of those trash celebrity worshiping rags. What a joke.

Absolutely perfect choice.

Mr. Posh doesn't deserve the so-called honor bestowed upon him by the totally biased LA Daily News. He missed 14 Galaxy games, scored exactly ONE goal had just three assists. Mr. Posh conveniently had his welcome-to-LA press conference arranged to happen 3 days before his wife's ill-fated TV show....and at that press conference, he neglected to announce his ankle injury. What a put-on! Mr. Posh didn't even show up in Dallas on July 31 to sign autographs...plus refused comment to the news media often regarding his injuries.
My vote for LA Sportspersons of the year goes to the USC women's soccer. They won a national championship!
