THE HERE'S THE REST OF THE STORY:

Jeannie and Bud's Love Story

On September 10, 2007, I went to a dance at El Dorado Park for seniors and asked a lady to dance with me. I asked her name and she said Wanda. She asked me my name and I said Neal. She looked a little like Wanda Cloud, a girl I had gone to school with in Oklahoma from 2nd grade through high school so I asked her what her maiden name was and she said Coker. She asked me my last name and I said Jones. The name Wanda Coker didn't register with me and Neal Jones didn't register with her.
Wanda said I had a look on my face as if I might have known some Coker's and she asked me if I did and I said yes, that I had known some in San Pedro. She named two other families and asked if they were the ones and I said no. I said that I had know a man who had two daughters, one name Jeannie and the other daughter was married to a man named Leonard and they lived on 22nd Street. Wanda stopped on the dance floor and said, 'Oh my God, that's me!' She took a closer look at me and said "Bud!" That was the name she had known me by and I said yes.
Jeannie was the first girl that I dated when I go out of the Navy and the first girl that I ever loved. My father and I owned a Richfield Gas Station on 7th and Gaffey and her father owned the Olympic Gas Station next door on 8th and Gaffey. That's how we met 61 years ago. I would have married her 61 years ago in 1946 but she was too young, 15, and still in high school.
I was surprised that she still had pictures of us camping in Big Bear, CA. with our families and also pictures of us at the gas stations.
We have been together every since we met on September 10, 2007 and are surprised how much alike we are and how well we get along. We have taken five wonderful trips together with no problems and planned a 6th trip to Hawaii on Pearl Harbor Day December 2009, as I was on the USS West Virginia when she was sunk on December 7, 1941.
I am now 85-years-old and she is 78-years-old. We stay active. We do volunteer work for AARP, TCE tax program and we go dancing at least once a week.
How many people get a second chance with their first love after 61 years?
