Martin Blagaich, holding the Press-Telegram, is a graduate of Long Beach Poly where he was very active in the music program. He played Tromebone and Euphonium in the school's Symphonic Band and Jazz Band, and was taught by Mr. Osman and Mr. Stevens. Once Martin arrived at UC Berkeley, he took the skills he gained at Poly and started applying them to taiko drumming. Martin was the showcase coordinator, webmaster, and composer of two songs for the group Cal Raijin Taiko.
Here he is with the student-run taiko group at the UC Berkeley. They are about five years old. The picture was taken right after Cal Raijin Taiko's third annual showcase, which was held in Pauley Ballroom on April 14. More information can be at website taiko.berkeley.edu

On June 21, Nick and Breanna Sanchez of Lakewood drove up the coast to Paso Robles, CA., stopping at the beautiful Eberle Winery, where we knew the balcony overlooking the vineyards would be the perfect spot for a picture with our local Press-Telegram.
