Veterans' Reunion

pn08-rpvets.JPGPaula Grond, President of the USS Gambier Bay/VC-10 Association was recently in St. Louis for the yearly reunion (October 21-24) of survivors from the USS Gambier Bay/VC-10. The USS Gambier Bay was an escort carrier in World War II and was sunk on October 25, 1944 in Leyte Bay. The USS Gambier Bay was the only US carrier sunk by naval gunfire in World War II. Paula's dad was a survivor but passed away in 1991. At the yearly reunions, the Association has a memorial service for those who lost their lives on the ship and for those who have since crossed the bar. The photo includes: standing left to right, survivors Carl Amundson, Bud Pettit, Dean Moel, Paula Grond, President, Survivors Norm Loats, Ed Hagerty and seated left to right, George Feliz, Don Heric, Murray Brown, Charlie Heinl, Fred Grabos, Jack Turner.
