Two queens stepped down from their nearly two year reign as Miss Greater Lakewood and Miss Greater Lakewood Teen in October and two new queens were crowned. Meagan Garcia was crowned Miss Greater Lakewood and Sandy Fernandez, Miss Greater Lakewood Teen. Both queens and their courts will serve as ambassadors to the Greater Lakewood community with Teen princesses Lorraine Delarosa and Taylor Cratty and Miss princesses Monce' Morales and Raquel Ramirez. The contestants were judged on personal interviews, beachwear, evening gown, delegate's question, and the final question. There were 10 judge's, five for Teen and five for Miss, and the judges ranged from community leaders, to long time residents, to people with pageant experience. Meagan Garcia attends Mount St. Mary's College as a Pre-Health Nursing student and is actively involved in Volunteer in Partnership Club, Women's Leadership, Commuter Club and Campus Ministry, as well as being on the Dean's List. Her platform is cancer awareness.
Sandy Fernandez, 17, is a senior at Downey High school where she has been a track star and cheerleader for three years. She has participated in student senate for six years and advanced to president. She also holds the title of Miss Teen Downey where she volunteered throughout the city for the Downey Rose Float Association. Sandy currently participates in the Virtual Enterprise Business Club.

I want to share with all, the 65th Anniversary of two wonderful people, my mother and father, Dr. Wendel Howard and Evelyn Jane Davis.Dad was born in California, the only son of Lorena and Howard Davis. Mom was born in Michigan the only daughter of Edna and Leman Cruice. The two became college sweethearts at USC. Dec. 11, 1945 was the day these two "tied the knot." Their theme song, "They Tried To Tell Us We're Too Young," was playing, their hearts were beating, and today, the great love they have shared should be captured to spread the world over!
Thank goodness their parents didn't wash their hands of them. They chose instead to help them wash their clothes.
The union took, and succeeding generations followed in a similar pattern; that is, don't waist too much time courting.
Thus Grandma Janie and Papa got busy spreading their special love to two children, David (me) and my brother Chris. We, along with our spouses, Didi and Karlean, brought five more children; Paul, Jennifer, Shawn, Troy, and Garrett, into our lives to love. Paul married Erin and brought fourth generation children, Sierra and Alexandra into the fold. Jennifer married Allan and two more, Ashley and Nicole came. Troy married Leslie and brought beautiful little Harper Cruice into the love.
`Then, as their song goes, "someday they may recall, we were not too young at all."

A movie or television crew had the Queen lite up, I couldn't help but take a shot. I've never seen her so bright at night. The rainbow in the lighting is just a plus to the icon of Long Beach. She deserves a lot of positive attention for what she gives to the city and all who come to her.Taken by Rollo Hartstrom

This is Zoey, my little darling that joined our household about a month ago. She is being weighed in during her first vet visit. She was a rescue from the SPCA's PD Pitchford Animal Companion Village in Long Beach. After the initial introduction, she was welcomed warmly by my 2-year-old kitty, Bernie. They are hysterically funny chasing each other around and vying for my attention and affection - which they receive quite a bit. Having two cats is wonderful; I can't imagine my life without them both.
