On October 16, the United Nations and Stowers' Magnet School of International Studies in Cerritos celebrated World Food Day. This day is celebrated worldwide to help alleviate hunger and poverty. For their service project the Stowers' ambassadors collected canned and boxed goods from the entire school for one week. At the end of the week, the students had collected over a 1,000 canned and baked goods, which were donated to the Way Out Ministeries located in Hawaiian Gardens. Way Out Ministries, which runs a local food bank, had run out of food and were turning people away when the Stowers' ambassadors showed up with their cargo.
