Two queens stepped down from their nearly two year reign as Miss Greater Lakewood and Miss Greater Lakewood Teen in October and two new queens were crowned. Meagan Garcia was crowned Miss Greater Lakewood and Sandy Fernandez, Miss Greater Lakewood Teen. Both queens and their courts will serve as ambassadors to the Greater Lakewood community with Teen princesses Lorraine Delarosa and Taylor Cratty and Miss princesses Monce' Morales and Raquel Ramirez.The contestants were judged on personal interviews, beachwear, evening gown, delegate's question, and the final question. There were 10 judge's, five for Teen and five for Miss, and the judges ranged from community leaders, to long time residents, to people with pageant experience. Meagan Garcia attends Mount St. Mary's College as a Pre-Health Nursing student and is actively involved in Volunteer in Partnership Club, Women's Leadership, Commuter Club and Campus Ministry, as well as being on the Dean's List. Her platform is cancer awareness.
Sandy Fernandez, 17, is a senior at Downey High school where she has been a track star and cheerleader for three years. She has participated in student senate for six years and advanced to president. She also holds the title of Miss Teen Downey where she volunteered throughout the city for the Downey Rose Float Association. Sandy currently participates in the Virtual Enterprise Business Club.
