Michael and Jennifer Giddens of Garden Grove, and Tom and Connie Giddens of Los Alamitos proudly accepted the "STAR" Award (Safe Transportation Award Recognition) on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the Commercial Vehicle Safety Summit in Anaheim. Pictured with them is CHP Commissioner J.A. Farrow. The father and son team operate Pacific Coachways Charter Services based in Garden Grove which has been in business since 1989. The Giddens are proud to have received 28 consecutive "Satisfactory" ratings from the CHP in both the tour bus and SPAB (School Pupil Activity Bus) operations. They attribute their success to their focus on safety in the Driver Training category, and a high level of vehicle maintenance on all of the company's vehicles. The company has received awards from the California Bus Association for Maintenance Person of the Year (2005), Training/Trainer of the Year (2007) and were the cover feature article in Busline Magazine in 2009. Tom Giddens has lived in Rossmoor since 1958, and Tom and all of his children, Michael, Susie and Noelle, are Los Alamitos High School Alumni.

Long Beach 4th District City Councilmember Patrick O'Donnell, right presents a certificate to Long Beach Japanese Cultural Center President Ole Nervick in recognition of LBJCC's 60th anniversary. It stated that, "The Center has made abundant contributions to our community through its teaching of the language arts and has kept the Japanese culture alive in our city."
