While traveling through the Northwest, retired Long Beach Fire Chief Harold Omel and his wife Patti took the ferry to Bainbridge Island, Wash. They were visiting old friend, Fire Chief Hank Teran, a former Battalion Chief in Long Beach. Chief Teran gave them a terrific tour of the beautiful island, about the size of Catalina.

While vacationing in London, Cesar and Georgina Ricasa took a special day trip to view Stonehenge. The mysterious rocks towering them were dragged from over 280 miles away in Wales.
Howard and Irene Bergh on their way to the Tiger's Nest in Bhutan, April 2010. We missed a 3-day hike when Howard developed appendicitis in Punakha. A neurosurgeon in Thimphu removed his appendix. After a speedy and uncomplicated recovery, we were able to continue our adventure across Bhutan and into northeast India.Submitted by Howard and Irene Bergh

Long Beach residents Johanna Nolan and Claudia Meza in front of the free standing bell tower of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa. Construction occurred in three stages over 177 years on the tower. It began sinking after construction progressed to 3rd floor in 1178 due to weak unstable sub soil. Hence it became known as "The Leaning Tower of Pisa."Submitted by Claudia Meza

St. Anthony High School Grads Visit Egypt and the Great Pyramids of GizaFrom left, Dr. Joe Fisher, Phil Killeen ('56), Roselind Schilling Killeen ('57), Judith Martin Fisher, ('57) Kathy Martin Gausepohl ('61), and John Gausepohl ('60). The Ancient Splendors cruise included additional stops in Israel (Jerusalem and Nazareth), Turkey (Bodrum and Ephesus), Cyprus (the Church of Lazarus) and Greece (the Acropolis and the Plaka).
The Fishers are from Omaha, Neb., the Gausepohls are from Fallbrook, Ca. and the Killeens lived in Long Beach.
It was a great adventure celebrating almost 50 years of marriage for each couple.

Sisters, Camille Lang of Cypress and Carol Clark of Las Vegas traveled to New York and then cruised on the Norwegian Jewel to Canada. Camille and Carol are second generation Long Beach natives.
Mary Kelly of Long Beach, and Luz Shaw of Lakewood visited St. Coleman's Cathdral in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. This was the last place immigrants worship before departing on the Titanic for America. Also, the Lusitania was sunk off the coast of Cobh in 1915.Submitted by Mary Kelly
The Lowrey Family, The Miller Family and the Talley Family spent the last week of summer on vacation together on the arnival 4-day crusis to Ensenada. The boys were either graduates or still attend Carver Elementary in Long Beach. And they also have or still play at Lakewood Village Littel League. The families enjoyed the Eco Zip-Line Tour and Kayaking in Catalina. We were raised in Bellflower, attended schools here and are proud to call it our hometown.My sister, Pasty Thorburn of Clearlake Oaks, Ca. and I Joyce Rexwinkel of Lakewood, traveled to the big town of John Day, Oregon for a great visit with our third sister. We visited the Grant County Ranch and Radeo Museum, where the curator told stories of the old west. We saw rooms of old pictures and old saddles, of clothes and hats worn "out west," many, many years ago.

The Monsignor Sean B. Flanagan, retired pastor (pictured at left, top row) of St. Bartholomew Church of Belmont Shores toured his homeland of Ireland with 40 others. Here we are standing at the statue of Annie Moore, who was the first immigrant to enter Ellis Island when it opened on January 1, 1892, her 15th birthday. She departed from the small prot of Cobh Cove, which is also where the last passengers boarded the ill-fated Titantic. The dock is still there. Jerry and Cindy Murphy are holding the Press-Telegram.

Beth Brousseau and Pam Branch of Long Beach, pictured with Davik Teng and her family, spent 14 days in Cambodia with groups from CSULB and Hearts Without Boundaries. Now 15, Davik was the first to receive life-saving heart surgery in the U.S. at age 9.

Ron and Marge Rudman recently took a trip to Africa. They visited five national parks in four countries: South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Here they are in the Safari Camp Linkwasha Camp 2 in Zimbabwe.

The Long Beach Little League Minor B Dodgers won the All District Championship. The began the tournament as the number three team for Long Beach, and went undefeated in the tournament. They beat out teams from Bellflower, Long Beach, West Long Beach, and Lakewood Village. The Long Beach Dodgers beat out the Long Beach Reds with a score of 10 to six. Go Dodgers.
This is a celebration picture of the Long Beach Poly Boys and Girls Track Team who won the State Championship in Clovis, Ca on June 3rd and 4th. My husband Elvie Howard Jr. is holding the Press-Telegram. Everyone on the team worked so hard during their track season, on and off the field. That hard worked paid off. The Minor A Red Sox of Greater Bellflower Little League are the Champions of the Inner League Tournaments. The Red Sox were undefeated in the two-game elimination tournaments. They won the inner league tournament against the Minor A Rays on May 26. They had an amazing season. Way to play ball! At the annual Los Angeles Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete awards dinner. Each year, 3,000 scholar-athletes are selected by 119 local chapters of The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame for their superior academic and athletic performance as well as for their leadership and community service.
