It's still going to be a few months before the vast UCLA Film & Television Archive transfers its public programming from the Westwood campus to the brand spanking new Billy Wilder Theater at the Hammer Museum.
But if you want an early look at this strikingly designed, blessedly comfortable, state-of-the-art supervenue, you can check out some Hammer events there starting this weekend.
On Friday, the museum will present videos by acclaimed artists John Baldessari, Lynda Benglis, Joan Jonas, William Wegman, and Bruce and Norman Yonemoto.
And on Sunday, superhip author Dave Eggers ("A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius") reads from his new novel "What is the What," set in the war zone of southern Sudan.
The Billy Wilder Theater is located inside the Hammer Museum at 10899 Wilshire Blvd. in Westwood. For more information go to www.hammer.ucla.edu , and check out www.cinema.ucla.edu in the coming months for what are sure to be some of the best movie presentations in town.
