The French Giveth, The French Taketh Away

So the U.S. version of glossy French film magazine Premiere bit the dust this week. No loss; the publication has been a slick shadow of itself for years now, and you can still read its strained, pointless content ("The 15 Greatest Scary Flicks Ever Remade." Um, wow) on its website.
To make up for that loss, though, our Gallic friends have just made an English-language online version of revered critical journal Cahiers du cinema available. In classic French style, it's an unnecessarily complicated website to navigate, and some of the translations are as hilarious as the intellectual convolutions they're trying to express.
That said, English access to the publication that's exemplified serious film commentary - and that launched the careers of such critics-turned-directors as Francois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard - for more than half a century is an invaluable resource. And you can bet that if these guys ever take a look at horror remakes, it'll be worth reading.
