Hunger Force Not for All Tastes, But Who Cares?

I've previously expressed my concern about the cartooning of America. This weekend brought further reason for alarm.
I think I received more impassioned responses to my review of the "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" movie than anything I've written in a long time, perhaps going all the way back to, for heaven's sake, "The Passion of the Christ."
Now, I don't really care if people disagreed with my negative dismissal of the talking fast food comedy. I know the TV show it's based on has a devoted cult following. If some people feel juvenile pop culture satire served in a logic-defying format is high Dada, by all means enjoy; I'll just keep ordering my movie surrealism from adults-only providers like Charlie Kaufman and Luis Bunuel.
It's a bit depressing, however, when people get worked up enough to argue about a sophomoric animated film but not the dozens-to-hundreds of live-action movies that take on serious moral, social, political and even aesthetic issues each year.
Of course, cartoons can be artistic and worth analyzing, and I can think of at least three others from TV ("South Park," "Beavis and Butt-head," "The Simpsons") that either already have or are soon likely to make hilarious, insightful and subversive step-ups to the big screen.
But taking offense because someone does or doesn't get as many jollies out of a sentient milkshake's shenanigans is kind of troubling. Not as much as huge entertainment corporations depending on brightly colored talking animals to make their annual profit margins, but unsettling nonetheless. There are lots of things worth debating about in movies. Whether or not you liked an animated exercise machine trying to destroy the universe isn't one of them.
