Tobey Maguire Enters the Arachnid Debate

| | Comments (2) |

Tobey Maguire has had a free ride for too long. Sure, the actor can hide from the issue by talking about recently becoming a dad for the first time or speculating whether or not "Spider-Man 3," which hits theaters universe-wide on May 4, will be his last outing as the comic book webslinger.
But those sideshows can't deflect the controversy forever. It's high time he came clean on the matter that's been tormenting enquiring minds since the superhero franchise first made Maguire rich and famous five years ago.
So I asked him point blank: How do you really feel about spiders?
"I'm fine with spiders," Maguire said. "I respect their place in the world. I don't kill spiders. I saw a huge spider in my house last night and I just left it there. But now Jen, my fiancee, is telling me I've got to get 'em outside because of the baby. So, I've got to escort the spiders outside now."
