In tomorrow’s notebook you’ll find a breakdown of the team’s franchise-record, six-game losing streak. New forward acquisition Sal Peralta has arrived in town and I expect to be able to catch up with him tomorrow after practice.

1. Karl Taylor said that the team’s lack of offense is directly traceable to the promotions of Geoff Walker, Jon Rheault and Dwight King to the Manchester Monarchs, the Kings’ American Hockey League affiliate. “Tony Voce, he’s still not in great shape; he’s trying to come back from his (knee) injury. It’s taking some time conditioning-wise. There’s no question we’re trying to upgrade our scoring. It’s not easy this time of year to acquire that type of player. At the start of the year, you’ll remember we had an overabundance, to the point where we traded Adam Henrich. Now we’re short in that department.”

2. Even if Jon Landry didn’t request a trade, I asked, would Taylor have felt comfortable trading an offensive-minded defenseman (Jon Landry) for a forward (Peralta) because of the offensive contribution of David Walker? “David’s really jumped up in that area,” Taylor said. “So has Shawn Germain, which is exciting for him. Andrew Martens, he’s not playing bad, but we expect a little more in that area from him. If we can get a little more from him, I think we’ll be good in that area.”

3. I also asked if Mike Egener will be called upon to shoot more — he’s got a very hard slapshot from the point — and Taylor said Egener is already on it: “He did on this trip – it was amazing. In Alaska he really started blasting away. Yes we have talked about that, and he is shooting more.”

4. Taylor had the team take the last two days away from the ice after what’s been a pretty brutal schedule. Gradually, it’s getting easier. The Reign have back-to-backs this weekend in Vegas, but then none for another two weeks (on the road in Utah). Then from Jan. 29 through March 7, they’ll only play two road games.
