Taylor on Shawn Collymore.

Shawn Collymore’s game can be summed up in one word: Speed. Karl Taylor, who coached Collymore for parts of two seasons with the Reading Royals, brought the 27-year-old forward back to America to play for the Reign in 2010-11.

Here’s what Taylor had to say about Collymore following the Kings’ rookie practice this morning in El Segundo:

“Extremely fast skater. Speed is the essence of his game. he’s a first-line guy at this level. Very good player, we’re very excited to have him.

“I know him well, he knows me. The speed he adds to our lineup is essential. Very, very quick player. He closes quickly. He plays both ways, but he’s very skilled. He should be a top-line guy for us.”

Have you signed anybody else for next year that can match his speed?

“Probably not. he’s that fast. He’s a fast skater. Fans will really like watching him, he can fly. He’ll complement his linemates, whoever we put him with.”

Not too many players play in Denmark. What do you know about that league?

“A few years ago, they started paying a lot more money, so they brought in a few guys but it’s tapered off. They can’t sustain themselves. That happens over in Europe.”
