Las Vegas 1, Reign 0.

Make it six.

Six weeks into the regular season, six home games at Citizens Business
Bank Arena, zero wins for the Reign in front of their home crowd. That
was the consequence of Friday’s 1-0 loss to the Las Vegas Wranglers –
that, and an injury that knocked Jon Francisco out of the game in the
third period.

The Reign failed to capitalize on five power plays, and allowed a Ryan
Huddy goal during a 5-on-4 power play in the first period that proved to
be the game-winner.

Kellen Briggs stopped 24 of 25 shots in the loss. Defenseman Chad
Starling and right wing Chaz Johnson both missed their first game of the
season. Irvine native C.J. Stretch re-entered the lineup.

We’ll try to get updated information in this space, including Francisco’s status for Saturday night’s rematch against the Wranglers, in the morning.

Back on 9/18/10, after welcoming the news about Kellen Briggs returning to the Reign, I wondered aloud where our offense would come from. Now, as we approach the quarter mark in the season, I’m still left wondering. It seems the boys are trying hard, but the results simply aren’t there. We currently have the worst record in the ECHL (11 points), rank second to last in goals scored (2 ahead of Las Vegas, but they’ve allowed 18 fewer goals), and despite our having recently swept a very good Alaska team on the road, we haven’t yet won in our own barn! The ECHL is a developmental league–I understand that. What I don’t understand is why the other teams are performing at a higher level while still being charged with the same mission. True, the S.C. Stingrays aren’t in much better shape, and they won the cup just two years ago. Nevertheless, the Reign’s season thus far is fast becoming an eery reminder of what transpired last season, and we’re all familiar with how that turned out.

How is it that just anybody can write a blog and get as popular as this? Its not like youve said anything incredibly impressive –more like youve painted a pretty picture over an issue that you know nothing about! I dont want to sound mean, here. But do you really think that you can get away with adding some pretty pictures and not really say anything?
