Never mind, Clune’s a King.

Just got out of the Kings’ morning skate which featured new fourth-liner … Richard Clune.

Turns out sending Clune to Ontario yesterday was merely a procedural move that allowed the Kings to fly him from Manchester (New Hampshire) to Southern California without using up an NHL roster spot. Brandon Segal was claimed off waivers by the Dallas Stars prior to today’s 9 a.m. deadline, thus opening up a roster spot for Clune, who was promptly assigned to the parent club – which was the plan all along.

Clune didn’t actually practice (or, obviously, play in a game) for the Reign but technically becomes the first player assigned directly from the Reign to the Kings.

Report: Clune to Reign.

Rich Hammond at LAKingsinsider.com reports that the Kings have assigned forward Richard Clune from AHL affiliate Manchester to the Reign.

A former third-round draft pick by the Dallas Stars, Clune had three goals, 12 points and 119 penalty minutes in 41 games for the Monarchs. His 19 major penalties led the team and were tied for fourth in the AHL.

The 5-foot-10, 198-pound left wing was acquired from Dallas for Lauri Tukonen in July 2008.
