North Pole Tubing Park opens at Mountain High Resort

57340-tubing_2.jpg

North
Pole Tubing Park is now open at Mountain High Resort. With two moving
carpets and up to nine lanes, conditions permitting, it is the largest
tubing facility in Southern California.

Different
than open-hill sledding, the tubing park’s expertly shaped lanes guide
custom tubes down a course designed to deliver an exhilarating ride at a
controlled speed.  The professionally created lanes allow tubers to
control their direction and speed while the park’s moving carpets
comfortably transport tubers back up to the starting gate.

Says
John McColly, Mountain High’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing,
“This is a fun and safe way for everyone to enjoy winter in the
mountains.”

The
tubing park is open 9:00am to 4:00pm seven days-a-week through New
Year’s Day 2012, then Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays peak
season, January 14-16 and February 18-20, 2012 (Weather permitting).

Prices
for everyone over three and a half feet tall are $20 for two hours of
unlimited rides and $35 for a full-day. Tickets for children 36 to 42
inches tall are $15 with a paying adult. North Pole Tubing Park season
passes are $99. Tubes are included in the ticket price, and children 36
to 42 inches tall must accompany a parent in a separate tube. Children
under 36-inches tall are not permitted for safety reasons.

Mountain
High’s tubing park is located at the North Resort which is directly
across from the entrance of the West resort.  Turn up the entrance road
off Hwy 2 and continue one mile up the road. The park offers ample
parking, restrooms, a warming area with lockers and food and drink
concessions.

First-time
tubers will want to know that while temperatures in the mountains
average 20 to 30 degrees colder than down in the cities, staying warm is
easy. The best choice is water-resistant, layered clothing that can be
added or removed as the weather changes. It is always best to be
prepared as conditions can and sometimes do change rapidly at high
elevations. If clothes are not water resistant, a water repellent spray
can be applied. Tubers will also want to be sure to have warm gloves and
a hat or beanie. Remember, the majority of body heat is lost through
the head. A simple beanie can do wonders to keep tubers warm, especially
during a storm or periods of snowmaking. Ultraviolet rays are more
powerful at high elevations as well. Regardless of skin color or
complexion, everyone needs to wear protective sunscreen and UV-certified
sunglasses even on overcast days since ultraviolet rays can penetrate
the cloud cover. Should any of these important items be forgotten, the
Mountain High Sport Shops, located at both resorts and in the town of
Wrightwood, carry the latest in clothing and equipment for winter
enthusiasts.

Mountain High fires up snowmaking

Last nights temperatures were perfect for blowing snow, so Mountain High made
plenty. At East they fired up the guns on Sundance, Wildcard, and the
base area.
At the West resort seven more trails were on the snowmakers “nice” list.

Once again the builders are keeping everyone excited by changing up
the park. Lower Chisolm pad #1 got the Biloxi box and a 20ft down rail.
Pad #2 has another handrail and a 30ft flat box. The third pad on
Chisolm stepped up the game with the Ledge box and the Triple Sec rail.

Do you want big air with big spins? Mountain High has just what you
need with our new BAGJUMP. $5 for one jump, 3 for $10 or 5 for $15.

Express Pass offered at Mountain High resort in Wrightwood

The
Mountain High Express Pass is the most sophisticated and
environmentally-friendly lift ticket in snowsports. This reusable,
hard-plastic card can be encoded time and again with almost any Mountain
High lift ticket and saves the user both time and money.

The
Express Pass can be purchased at any Mountain High ticket window for
just $5 and activated online at mthigh.com by entering the pass’s custom
key code.  With a pre-activated Express Pass guests can skip the ticket
lines and go straight to the lifts.  The Express Pass also guarantees
their reservation in case of a sellout.

Guests
save $5 each time they use their Express Pass, non-holiday, so the card
pays for itself in the first visit.  It opens the holder to exclusive
money-saving offers and users receive a FREE adult 8-hour lift ticket
after every five visits.

Each
Express Pass is tracked through Mountain High’s electronic-access
ticketing system so riders can access their personal statistics such
days ridden, number of runs, and vertical feet from their smart phone or
computer.   These
stats can then be compared to others and ranked online offering users
titles such as “The Most Vertical,” or “The Most Frequent Guest to the
Mountain.”

The
Express Pass offers hands-free lift access.  A tiny RFID (Radio
Frequency Identification) chip communicates with the turnstiles and
opens the gates automatically as the user approaches.  There is no waste
with the Express Pass either.  Since the card is reusable, guests can
feel good about “going green” and reducing the waste created by millions
of discarded lift tickets each season.

Change
the way you access the mountain with an Express Pass.  Never wait in a
ticket line again, save $5 each visit, and share your accomplishments
with your friends.  Only at Mountain High, Southern California’s closest
winter resort.
