Leap Year sale offers big savings at Big Bear resorts

This Leap Year, Big Bear is giving skiers and snowboarders the chance to save big the entire month of March. On Wednesday, Feb. 29 Big Bear Lake Resort Association kicks off a 24-hour sale that includes $29 midweek lift tickets to Big Bear Mountain Resorts (Snow Summit and Bear Mountain) packaged with discounted midweek lodging accommodations.

The deeply discounted lift tickets are 50 percent off the regular rate and lodging is 29 percent off regular rates. The Leap Into March Special is a one-time deal that is only available for purchase during a 24-hour window starting Wednesday at 6 a.m. and ending March 1 at 6 a.m.

 

To qualify for the $29 lift tickets to Snow Summit and Bear Mountain guests must book at least one night lodging accommodation for arrivals during March 2012. The package deal is good for midweek overnight stays Sunday through Thursday and skiing or riding Monday through Friday.

In addition, guests who wish to rent skis or snowboards during their trip to Big Bear may opt for rentals at a 29 percent discount. There is a limit to two $29 ski lift tickets for every night of lodging per itinerary. However, more tickets may be purchased at 25 percent off the regular rate.  

Let it snow at Mountain High in Wrightwood

Mountain High is reporting snow flurries with more snow expected throughout the day. The forecast is calling for a fast moving storm to pass through leaving several new inches.

Up to 6 lifts will be in operation today accessing terrain for all ages and abilities. Coverage is good with a 12 to 36 inch base and surface conditions range from machine groomed hard packed to frozen granular.

Women's Edventures offer clinics at Bear Mountain

Women's Edventures will hold one day and two day ski and snowboard camps this Thursday through Sunday at Bear Mountain ski resort .

The clinics are for all levels of women skiers. They are taught by PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) Certified Women Instructors and AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors) Certified Women Instructors

The clinic includes:

4+ Hours of instruction each day
Video analysis - weather permitting

Celebrate President's Day at Big Bear ski resorts

Celebrate President's Day in Big Bear with excellent midwinter conditions. There's plenty of snow, nearly 100% of both resorts are open with plenty of terrain park features between Snow Summit and Bear Mountain.

Chair lifts are open today at Snow Summit until 5pm so you can be sure to get all of your favorite runs in.

Insider's Tip: Chairs 7 and 10 for intermediate to advanced riders have the least amount of wait time, chairs 2 & 3 are best for park riders, and chair 9 is perfect for families and advanced beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders.

Heavenly Ski Resort opens Milky Way Bowl for President's Day

After receiving a foot of new snow on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, Heavenly Mountain Resort opened Milky Way Bowl for the first time this season, giving the resort additional expert and off-piste terrain. Heavenly now has half the resort open, totaling 2,400 acres.


"Mother Nature has finally come through at a perfect time, as we head into the President's holiday. Our guests can expect a great variety of terrain and LakeTahoe's best surface conditions for their trip," said Pete Sonntag, Heavenly's general manager. "February and March are traditionally our snowiest months, and it looks like the storm door may be opening. We hope this means big snow for the rest of the season."

 Since Monday, Heavenly has received 18" of new snow, and the entire upper mountain will now be open. 

The first part of the Stateline Showdown, a three-part slopestyle competition series, will take place at Ante Up Terrain Park at Heavenly Mountain Resort on Feb. 18 from 9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

The entry fee is $20, and the other two dates are March 10 and 24. For more information, call the Heavenly Events Department at (530) 542-5133.

Bear Mountain and Snow Summit report 14 inches of fresh powder this morning! Add taht to the snowmaking done nearly every night this week. Can you say  now's the time to get up here for freshies.

Geronimo and Exhibition are open today for those of you who like deep steeps. This snow storm is expected to move out this morning leaving mostly sunny skies through the long President's Day Weekend.

Couple ties the knot atop Snow Summit on Valentine's Day

In celebration of Valentine's Day, love was definitely in the air when SoCal residents, Andrew and Cicely Blackmore wed atop Snow Summit Resort.

The avid boarders, who share a passion for snow sports, exchanged vows before their pastor, photographer and numerous spectators at the top of Snow Summit overlooking Big Bear Lake. The excited couple followed their "I do's" with a celebratory run down the slopes dressed in their wedding attire.

"My husband, Andrew learned to snowboard at Snow Summit 25 years ago," said Cicely Blackmore, SoCal resident and blushing bride. "It was the perfect location for our wedding with such unique views, and the staff at Big Bear Mountain Resorts made it an unforgettable experience."

"We are thrilled to have shared in Cicely and Andrew's big day. Roses are red, snow is white at Mountain High

Roses are red, snow is white, and it's been falling in Wrightwood all night. Mountain High got 1-2 inches of natural snow plus its snowmaking crew put down another 2 to 4 on almost every open trail.

This morning the skies are crystal clear so it's time to come up and enjoy the winter mountains. All roads are open and clear.

Under Armour's 3rd Rail Jam unites

Stopping at Mountain High on Saturday, this snow and music festival showcases some of the country's best athletes in extreme snow sports. 


Up to 150 athletes can register to compete in the winner-takes-all competition for several thousand dollars in cold hard cash and additional prizes.


Competitors will be judged on their style, composure, consistency, use of the course, creativity, tricks and attitude, as well as have the rare chance to see slop-side graffiti art shows, MC battles, hip-hop music and attend non-stop after-hour parties.

Snow Summit hosts USASA boardercross on Sunday

Snow Summit ski resort will host a USASA boardercross on Sunday.  USASA point-rated events can lead to a direct seed into the USASA National Championships set for Copper Mountain, Colorado, from March 31 to April 11.

 

Simply win your age division and an invitation is yours!

They offer 26 different age divisions (13 for men and 13 for women). Skiers are invited to participate and earn an invitation to the Nationals for Halfpipe, Slopestyle, and SkierCross.


  • Event registration is held at Bear Mountain in the Cafeteria
  • Registration begins at 8:00 am and is open 'til 9:30 am the morning of the event.
  • Coarse inspection/ or practice is from 9:15 to 10:15.
  • Riders meeting is approximately at 10:15.
  • Event cost is $25.00
  • Competitor lift tickets are $25.00 (You don't need a ticket, if you already have a pass).
  • Helmets are required for all USASA point rated events.
Age groups for men and women from 7 and under  to 70 and over

Today looks like it'll be a fun day of skiing and snowboarding at Mountain High with light snow showers developing in the late afternoon. Plus it's 2 for Tuesday!

Bear Mountain Only passes good at Snow Summit

Bear Mountain made more snow last night, giving you some great packed powder conditions. Chairs 6, 7, and 9 are open today as well as all the runs accessed by them. 

Boarders can find features for all levels all over the mountain, but if you prefer the steeps, head over to Snow Summit and check out The Wall, Dickys and Olympic.

The big news for this week is Bear Mountain Only season passes are good at Snow Summit from Monday, Feb. 6 - Friday, Feb. 10. So go check out Westridge or just take some laps around the mountain.

Practice day for triple air contest at Mountain High

Snowmaking continued last night at Mountain High, where they're laying it down thick and deep. Up to six inches on runs like Catch Ya Later, Goldrush, and Calamity.

So enjoy the fresh, machine-made packed powder. And for all you Triple Air competitors, it's practice day! Head to the West Base Lodge for registration & tickets, and then up on to the mountain to get your jumps in.

The West Resort will be open today from 8:30am to 10pm with night skiing every Wednesday through Sunday from 5pm to 10pm. Coverage is good with a 12 to 36 inch base of fresh machine made & machine groomed snow, and the majority of the open trails have been groomed.

Please note that lifts and trails are subject to change without notice. The East Resort is temporarily closed but will be open this Saturday and Sunday for you to enjoy its long runs and perfectly groomed corduroy.

Mountain High teams wins medals in Winter X Games

Mountain High has announced that two members of its newly formed professional snowboard team medaled in the Snowboard Street event at the 2012 Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

Ryan_Paul_X.jpgincluding a 270 onto the Jersey Barrier to 450 out, a gap to 50-50 on the down-flat ledge to a backflip out, and a Cab 180 to 50-50 on the ledge to backside rodeo out. 

"X Games was so awesome.  I'm super stoked on how it all went and can't wait to get back next year," says Ryan Paul. "Mountain High has been a great training ground to learn the tricks that have helped me excel as a professional snowboarder."

Nick Visconti held off some series competition to win the Bronze with his smooth style and hammer tricks including a hardway cab 3 on the down rail, a 270 onto the curved C-rail, and frontside 50-50 to 180 out on the massive cargo container feature.

On Sunday March 18, 2012, X Games medalist's Nick Visconti and Ryan Paul will team up for a signature event at Mountain High dubbed "The Great White Park Attack." This will be a great opportunity for snowboard enthusiasts to come out and meet the professionals who took home Silver and Bronze from the Winter X Games in 2012.

 

Look for the entire Mountain High professional snowboarding team throughout the season as they film for the Drive In web series and their first full-length snowboard movie "Los Angeles" that will be released in the Fall of 2012.
