Friday picks

Because I don't want to step on the prep dog's tail too much, I'll just take a bite (no pun intended really) out of this week's slate, highlighting some of the top games in the area. So here it goes.

Redlands East Valley vs. Colton - I haven't seen the Yellowjackets yet, but I was extremely impressed with the lateral speed of the REV linebackers. While Colton will come at them and break a big play or two, I think REV has the weapons to pull it out.
Redlands East Valley 27, Colton 21

Palm Desert at Serrano - The D-backs have taken out Etiwanda and Silverado with aplomb, but Palm Desert is probably the best team they've faced. We'll see if scrappy Serrano can continue its roll, but I'm going to go Palm Desert.
Palm Desert 23, Serrano 21

Compton Centennial at Miller: A.J. Springer has been the most dynamic weapon in the area to date, combining precise passing and plus-mobility from the quarterback position for the Rebels. Compton Centennial will be Miller's toughest test to date, but I'm really liking what I'm seeing in year two of the Steinberg era.
Miller 30, Centennial 26

Fontana at Colony: Here's to the Steelers for breaking that losing streak. After all that program and school has been through recently, its good to see something positive happen. Getting win No. 2 against Colony will be a nearly impossible task though.
Colony 37, Fontana 12

Carson at Redlands: I really liked what I saw in game one from Redlands, who took a talented Vista Murrieta team to the brink on the road despite almost a brand-new team. With a bye to work out the kinks, I like the Terriers here.
Redlands 28, Carson 17

Riverside North at Kaiser: Kaiser would love to give the Huskies, who dealt the Cats two of their three losses a year ago, a little payback. But North has payback of its own on the brain, which doesn't bode well for Dick Bruich's boys.
North 30, Kaiser 16

San Gorgonio at Chino Hills: San G will be running into a pretty annoyed Chino Hills squad, who fell to this guy's favorite IE team, Diamond Ranch, last week. San G is still young and this will be a tough test for them.
Chino Hills 31, San Gorgonio 14

Granite Hills at Rim of the World: I have a feeling that the Cougars wish they were going to North Carolina for a rematch with Union Pines then going up the mountain to face the Scots and their five-touchdown machine, Nick Toner.
Rim of the World 30, Granite Hills 12

Ridgecrest Burroughs at Apple Valley: The Sun Devils looked pretty darn impressive putting up 62 on Montclair. Against the struggling Burros, they'll come close to matching that number. Real close.
Apple Valley 58, Burroughs 10

Rancho Cucamonga at Carter: Hopefully Ashtun Williams is all set to go for the Lions after a scary incident. Rancho Cucamonga played a very-good La Quinta team very tough, but I'm going with the winged helmets here.
Carter 17, Rancho Cucamonga 13

College

Oklahoma State (-10) at Troy
This could be a tricky game for Okie State, as Troy is the defending Sun Belt champion and beat a highly-ranked Missouri team in a similar situation in 2004. Movie Gallery Stadium (I'm not making that up) will be rocking (I am making that up), and I think OSU will be in for a tussle. I think a better bet in this game is to take the over, which is 62.5 points.
Oklahoma State 38, Troy 30
