Picks and fun
In celebrating my newfound responsiblity as blogger-guy, I've decided to do some game predictions. Yeah, I know the season has started, but I'm doing it anyway because I can. High school games will be straight-up, with college and pro games to be taken against the spread. I'll take all the credit if you win a lot of these but if you turn out like this then it was the prep-dog's fault, not mine. And you probably should stay away from the online bookies for a while.
To Thursday's picks...
High School
Bloomington at Rancho Verde: No spread here, especially from the Bloomington side. The double-wing will batter Rancho Verde for a while and Diamond Duncan has turned into an elite big-play threat both running and receiving. But Rancho Verde is good - No. 3 in the Eastern Division polls-good to be exact - and will be able to withstand the Bloomington onslaught, especially if the Bruins put the ball on the ground.
Prediction: Rancho Verde 31, Bloomington 26
College
West Virginia (-16.5) at Maryland: The Mountaineers, with Steve Slaton and Pat White, are scary fast and extremely good. Maryland, besides being the alma mater of my cousin, is scary average and extremely middle of the road. But it is in College Park, making this an interesting spread. W. Virginia struggled a bit with Marshall and while they'll win this, I expect Maryland to barely get the cover.
Prediction: West Virginia 36, Maryland 23
TCU (-8) at Air Force: TCU gave Texas a run for a while before finally faltering late last week, while Air Force is 2-0 but has played a 1-AA team in South Carolina State and a team in Utah without its QB. Therefore, I think the Falcons are a weak 2-0. There might be some hangover for the Horned Frogs, but not enough to win this game by less than 10.
Prediction: TCU 28, Air Force 13
This is just a nugget folks, I'll be here all season.
