Big Bear football canceled

After consulting with Twentynine Palms and considering the DeAnza League schedule, Big Bear and 29 Palms decided to cancel their football game, preliminarily scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

Weather was not a problem, as the smoke has dissipated and school is in session, but with DeAnza League games scheduled on Friday, Big Bear athletic director Dave Griffiths felt like playing a game Tuesday would endanger kids from both teams.
"We did all we could to try to get this game in, but there wasn't a way to do it without putting our kids in a dangerous situation," Griffiths said. "To have a game on Tuesday and then have another one on Friday was too much to handle. It just couldn't be done."
Big Bear and Twentynine Palms head on the road this week, with Big Bear playing at Desert Hot Springs and Twentynine Palms heading to San Jacinto Friday.
