My top 10
The new weekly tradition is the unveiling of my top 10, well after the actual top 10 is released. I'm sure everyone was waiting with baited breath for this. If you weren't, I'm doing it anyway.
10. Hesperia
I had these guys 9th a week ago and dropped them just because the offense seems to have lost a little punch, winning the last two games 10-0. Injuries have been an issue for the Scorpions, which is a factor. But if they keep shutting out teams (three goose eggs in five games), it won't really matter.
9. Colony
I thought the Titans really had a chance to take out Serrano, thinking that the running of Daniel Simmons could pound the Diamondback defense. I also thought that the world pre-1955 was in black and white when I was four years old. Needless to say, I was wrong about both. Colony is still good, but this beating is a good learning experience. Hopefully.
8. Arroyo Valley
The Hawks lose a spot because they tied Silverado and quite frankly, I don't like ties. It's nothing personal, but I just like resolution to my conflicts, football or otherwise. The Hawks did play well against a solid Silverado team and if they do the same against Moreno Valley this week, it'll be fine.
7. Colton
The Yellowjackets got back in my good graces this week by destroying Marina in the OC. Travell Washington, who was banging to some Kanye West in between plays, was the spark Colton needed coming into their game against Los Osos this week. Like I said last week, there's no insult in losing to REV and La Quinta.
6. Chaffey
How did the Tigers go from being unranked to being ranked sixth. Well, it sure didn't come from a bribe, though I probably could be had for $3.50 and a double-double from In-N-Out. Actually, the Pirates have chugged along without a loss, most recently beating La Quinta. Colton lost to La Quinta, so by logic, Chaffey should be ranked ahead. Sounded good at the time.
5. Chino Hills
The Huskies have played pretty nicely since losing to Diamond Ranch, overcoming a spirited Etiwanda team in a shootout last weekend. There are still some concerns about a defense that gave up 42 to D-Ranch and 34 to Etiwanda, but the offense seems just fine.
4. Los Osos
I felt bad for Kaiser Friday, because Los Osos was definitely annoyed about only scoring 3 points the week before against Norco. While this isn't exactly your older brother's Kaiser team, putting up 49 on the Cats is nothing to sneeze at. The Grizzly offense got going just in time, because Colton will be a tough road test Friday.
3. Miller
Another week, another big game for the Rebels. It's safe to say that the Rebels are real at this point, as they are destroying everything in their path thus far, in the process establishing themselves as the main competition to REV in the CBL. A.J. Springer could be the most explosive player in the CBL.
2. Serrano
OK, I was wrong. I predicted Colony to go into Snowline Stadium and grab the victory, but the Diamondbacks beat the Titans down. It's not as if Serrano has all sort of Division I prospects, but the D-backs are tough, smart, know their roles and are relentless. No one has figured out how to repel them yet.
Before we go to the No. 1 team, a little throwback video from the kids from Saved by the Bell. I'm not being political, just enjoying some clean fun.
1. Redlands East Valley
Quite frankly, you'd have to be on drugs not to have the Wildcats No. 1. Between the quality of opponents they've beaten to the well-rounded nature of those wins, it's hard to find something that REV is bad at. If I had to nitpick, its that the cheerleaders stand on ladders instead of wooden blocks. That could be dangerous.
