Wooten switches commitment to Nevada

Carter High School senior Khalid Wooten, who verbally committed to UTEP in December, has decided to commit to the University of Nevada instead.

Wooten, an all-Citrus Belt League quarterback at Carter who is expected to play defensive back in college, made the decision late this week to commit to the Wolfpack.
"I feel that Nevada is just a better place for me," Wooten said after Saturday's Southern California Bowl in Fullerton. "It's nothing against UTEP, but the more I thought about it the more I felt comfortable at Nevada."
Wooten notified UTEP of his decision Friday and indicated that the Miners suggested that he take the weekend to reflect before officially switching. Wooten didn't need much time to reflect though.
"They wanted me to sleep on it, but I'm comfortable with my decision," Wooten said. "(UTEP) was kind of talking down Nevada, which I didn't like. I know that this is the right decision for me."
Wooten announced the decision after playing defensive back for the Inland Marine All-Stars in their 27-13 victory over the Coastal Navy All-Stars Saturday. Wooten was in on a few tackles and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter to basically seal the Inland team's victory.
