Kistner refutes rumors
Hesperia football coach Robert Kistner, the all-County Coach of the Year this past season, wasn't surprised when I called him tonight to address rumor of him leaving the Scorpions to coach in North Bend, Oregon. Apparently, he's heard them too.
"Yeah I've heard them," Kistner said. "I did go up to Oregon last week, but I didn't interview for a job. I went up there, saw a couple of friends and went fishing."
Kistner didn't reel in any big fish and apparently, didn't cast a line out toward the open job in North Bend. Instead, he is turning his attention to spring practice, the Scorpions' first on-field action since ending a 9-2 season with a loss to Riverside King in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Eastern Division playoffs. Spring practice starts Monday at Hesperia and will run for two weeks.
"I'm excited to get back out there," Kistner said. "Spring practice isn't as big of a deal for us because we end school early (May 30), but it will be good to see the kids out on the field and work on some of the basics."
