The accolades continue to pour in for Barstow pitcher Aaron Sanchez and San Gorgonio infielder Adam Quintana, as both were named to the Maxpreps Medium School All-American team.

Sanchez, who was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays with the No. 34 pick in the draft, made the first team thanks to a 7-0 record on the mound with a 0.73 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 57.2 innings pitched. Sanchez also hit .403 with five home runs.

Quintana, the CIF-SS Division 3 co-MVP and the San Andreas League MVP, earned second-team honors after a monster year in which he batted .545 with four home runs and a section-best 47 RBIs. He also starred on the mound, going 11-3 with a 1.92 ERA and 114 strikeouts.

Sanchez signs with Blue Jays

Barstow pitcher Aaron Sanchez, the 34th pick of last week's Major League Baseball draft, has signed with the Toronto Blue Jays and will head off to their rookie ball team in Dunedin, Florida this upcoming weekend.

Sanchez, the first player in the county to be selected, chose not to go into details on the terms of his contract, but Jim Callis of Baseball America indicated that Sanchez is receiving a $775,000 bonus in this tweet. Either way, Sanchez is excited about embarking on his professional career.

"It's awesome," said Sanchez, who had signed with the University of Oregon. "It's made better by the fact that I'm still in school. It's kind of cool being the only kid in high school that's a professional baseball player."

Sanchez graduates from Barstow this upcoming Thursday and will head to Florida three days later. Florida may seem like a different world from the High Desert, but Sanchez is ready for the challenge.

"The humidity will be something to get used to, but its hot up here and its hot down there," Sanchez said. "I can't wait to get going."

Six county players were honored as top 100 high school prospects in the latest issue of Baseball America. Barstow pitcher Aaron Sanchez tops the list at No. 25. Sanchez, a 6-foot-3 righthander who has verbally committed to Oregon, was also listed on the magazine's third-team Preseason High School All-America Team.

Other county players in the top 100 include Yucaipa pitcher Taijuan Walker (No. 37), former REV pitcher Tyler Shreve (No. 60), REV lefthanded pitcher Griffin Murphy (No. 61), Los Osos catcher Jake Hernandez (No. 77) and Upland pitcher Scott Frazier (No. 98).
