Baker and Hofman both specialized in baseball, with Baker playing professionally in the Boston Red Sox organization after two all-CIF appearances while Hofman played at UCLA after being named the County Baseball Player of the Year as as senior. Waller, an all-CIF basketball player holds the school record for rebounds in a game with 32 while Chiappone was an all-league football and basketball player for the Thunderbirds before playing at the University of Redlands. Rogers was a three-sport athlete in track, volleyball and baseball, notching all-league honors in four different track and field events.
Speaking of football recruiting, Bloomington Christian will be hosting a seminar by the National Collegiate Scouting Association at 7 p.m. on January 31 called "College Recruiting Simplified."
The keynote speaker for the seminar is Derrick Mayes, a former NFL wide receiver who played for the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks from 1996-2000, winning a Super Bowl ring with the Packers in 1996. Mayes, who attended Notre Dame, serves as the NSCA's Athletic Recruiting educational speaker.

As I alluded to in my picks yesterday, the site of tomorrow's East Valley Division playoff game between Linfield Christian and Big Bear has been moved to Lucerne Valley High School. It was moved from the original site of Big Bear Middle School because of the threat of significant snow and high winds.
"Lucerne Valley has a permanent press box and we don't, so we decided to make the change," Big Bear coach/athletic director Dave Griffiths said. "We use scissor lifts and with the winds of 50-60 mph which may come, we didn't want to take that risk. Plus, we didn't want Linfield to be stuck up here because their buses aren't meant for snow at all."
The 1 p.m. time for the game remains as originally scheduled.
CIF-Southern Section commissioner Jim Staunton, who has held his position since 1999, announced last week that he will retire effective July 29.
Staunton, who made his intentions to retire known to the CIF-SS administrative body in May, will pursue a teaching job in the masters program at Concordia University and retired in part to spend more time with his grandchildren.
"I'm gratified at the opportunity to serve this Section for the last eleven years," Staunton said. "This is an outstanding organization: one of the best in the United States. It has been a wonderful term of service."
Staunton oversaw much financial growth and was instrumental in the section expanding from 505 schools to its current membership of 580.
The Citrus Valley girls volleyball team will be dedicating its October 28 game against Riverside Notre Dame to breast cancer awareness as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A baked-goods drive will be held at the game with pink t-shirts to be sold for $12 each. All proceeds from the sales will go to Susan G. Komen for The Cure.
Along with the t-shirt sales, which are expected to get a big boost from the girls tennis team, there will be a speaker at 4:30 p.m. before the game.
Two months before the basketball season is set to tip off, the Ontario High School athletic department is looking to fill its varsity girls head coaching position. The position is open to in-district and out-of-district candidates and inquires can be sent via e-mail to OHS athletic director Rhonda Purwin at rhonda_purwin@cjuhsd.net.
The previous coach of the Jaguars was Bryan Grant, who led Ontario to an 18-5 record last year and a second-place finish in the Mt. Baldy League. Grant was 34-35 in three seasons at Ontario, leading the Jaguars to playoff berths the last two years.
For only the second time in school history, the Big Bear High School football team will host a night game, as the Bears will take on Rio Hondo Prep at 7 p.m. at Big Bear Middle School. And the buzz for the game is hard to ignore.
"It's the talk of the town right now," Big Bear head coach Dave Griffiths said. "The kids are excited, the people in town are excited, everyone is looking forward to this."
The only other time the Bears have played at night was November 17, 2006, when the Bears hosted Anza Hamilton in the first-round of the CIF-SS East Valley playoffs because Hamilton didn't want to play Saturday. The Bears whipped Hamilton 42-12 on a chilly night en route to the CIF title.
This night game is completely voluntary, as the Bears will rent lights and bring them in for what they anticipate will be a standing-room only crowd. It's the opportunity to draw more fans that had them give the green light on the night game.
"In these economic times with the budgets we have, you have to do whatever you can to increase the gate and bring in revenue," Griffiths said. "Being a resort town, we have a lot of people who work Saturday afternoons and have a hard time attending our games. Hopefully this will bring them out."
The Chino High School football program will be bringing its NFL alumni back next Friday and Saturday for the Chino Football Camp. Stanford. Other counselors at the camp - which will run from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday - are Chris McFoy, Ryan McFoy, Marvin Walker and possibly Greg Salas.

The all-star game, which was run before by San Bernardino Valley College, is resuming after not being played last year. Citrus Valley is hosting a clinic for local players run by the NFL's High School Player Development program from July 26-30. The clinic is free and will go over fundamental skill development, position reviews and individual competition. The clinic will be run in coordination with the National Guard for the first time, as the National Guard will instruct with coaches and give seminars on personal development and community service.
For more information on the camp, you can contact Citrus Valley football coach/AD Peter Smolin at 909-799-2320 or petesmolin@gmail.com, Clare Graff with the NFL at 212-450-2435 and Jim Boyle, LM&O, at 703-797-7103.
Another note from Fowler that I thought should be passed along...
Considering the amount of its graduates who play basketball for a living, the Etiwanda High School alumni basketball game on May 21 won't exactly be full of players trying to capture their former glory.
Fresh off their NBA rookie seasons, New Orleans Hornets point guard Darren Collison of UCLA fame and Portland Trail Blazers power forward Jeff Pendergraph will headline a group of players that includes some who play professionally overseas.
Collison, who won a CIF championiship at Etiwanda with the Arizona State-bound Pendergraph in 2005 and led UCLA to three final four appearances in four seasons, thrived in the absence of injured Hornets point guard Chris Paul, averaging 19 points and 8.5 assists the last three months of this season.
The alumni game will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Etiwanda on May 21.
Galaxy star Landon Donovan is coming back to his hometown of Redlands Monday, as he will be filming a segment for ESPN's "Homecoming" in the gym at Redlands East Valley High School at 7 p.m. with ESPN writer Rick Reilly.
"It's wonderful for the school and the community," REV athletic director Rhonda Fouch said. "We are excited to have our prodigal son return and we consider him our own illustrious alumni."
An assembly involving REV students and Redlands community members will be held alongside the filming for Donovan, a 2000 graduate, with the REV boys and girls soccer teams and cheerleaders to be present in full uniform. It's an event that was several months in the making according to REV assistant principal Dale Whitehurst, the point man on the project.
"We started talking with ESPN about it in mid-January and set the date in late-February, early March," Whitehurst said. "There was some hesistance about setting a date because there were MLS labor issues and we weren't sure if Landon would end up staying in England and play over there, but we are extremely excited to have this at our school."
Fans interested in attending Monday's assembly can contact ESPN via e-mail at espnevents@onsetproductions.com or go to onsetproductions.com and click on the "ESPN Homecoming" icon.
Anyone who has an all-area team for basketball or soccer, feel free to e-mail it to tj.berka@inlandnewspapers.com or sports@inlandnewspapers.com. We want to start running them on the blog ASAP.

Just to let you guys know I'll be blogging the Central Division championship game from Citrus College. I've done this in the past, but I keep forgetting to let people know about it. So if you can't make it out, you can get real-time updates on this blog tomorrow starting around 6:30 p.m.
Los Angeles Lakers Hall of Fame guard and general manager Jerry West will speak from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at San Bernardino High School as part of "The Power of Mentoring" program.
West will talk to parents and children from the San Bernardino, Colton and Rialto Unified School Districts. Free tickets to the event are currently available at the Carousel Mall in San Bernardino.
Plenty of schools have moved the starts of their games this week from 7:30 to 7 p.m. As someone who works with deadlines for a living, I'm cool with that.
This is what we got right now as far as games that have changed.
CENTRAL DIVISION
Colton vs. Rancho Cucamonga at Los Osos
Etiwanda at Chino Hills
Colony at Upland
EASTERN DIVISION
Palm Springs vs. Summit at Miller
Kaiser at Rim of the World
La Quinta at Serrano
Arrowhead Christian's football team was able to find a replacement for its forfeited game with La Verne Lutheran this week, as it'll host Boron at 7 p.m. at Arrowhead Christian High School. It's not a pushover matchup, as Boron comes in with a 7-2 record after clinching the Desert Mountain League championship this past week.
The Cajon-Colton bash, which will likely determine the San Andreas League champion, will be played on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Colton High School instead of Friday as was originally scheduled during the summer.
Makes for a great Thursday of football, as Kaiser and Summit will also butt heads at 7 p.m. at Miller High School.
With the football season entering its final week, its time for me to start putting together the All-County football team, which will run in the Sun on Christmas Day (and I'm sure Clay Fowler could use them for its all-Inland Valley team in the Bulletin as well). And to do that, I want to get as much pertinent information as I can, because unfortunately, I haven't found a way to clone myself and attend every area high school football game.
So if any of you out there might have a copy of your all-league teams (looking for Baseline, CBL, San Andreas, Sunkist, Sierra, Desert Sky, Mojave River, Christian, De Anza and Mt. Baldy primarily), shoot an e-mail to tj.berka@inlandnewspapers.com, clay.fowler@inlandnewspapers or FAX a copy to (909) 484-5574. It'd be much appreciated.
Yeah, I've been away the last two days, but here is the schedule for this week's CIF semifinal playoff games.

According to the CIF, all of Friday's playoff games are to start at 7:30 p.m. unless noted. Well, there are plenty of games to be noted involving area teams that are moving to 7 p.m.
