Packinghouse Christian High School: November 2009 Archives
One season after making it to the CIF-SS Division VI-A championship game, Packinghouse Christian has decided not to field a girls basketball team for the upcoming season.
With five players having graduated from last year's squad and a sixth out with a torn knee ligament, the Bears were reduced to three players, which necessitated the cancellation of the season.
"It's a very sad thing," Packinghouse Christian athletic director Paul Verhoeven said. "You never want to have to take that kind of step, but we also owed it to our opponents and the tournaments we were scheduled to play in to have a decision in the appropriate amount of time."
The Bears went around campus looking for players to fill the spots before making the decision to cancel last week. The boys team, which consists of six players, will play this season.
"One of the great things about a small school is the ability to jump right in and be able to play," Verhoeven said. "It's too bad more students didn't take advantage of the opportunity."
