The Citrus Valley girls swimming team nearly won the CIF-SS Division 4 team title on Friday, but came up just short

Redlands' duo of senior Nolan Brown and freshman Kyle Gornay got the top two spots in the 100-yard backstroke at the CIF-SS Division 1 final tonight at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach, with Brown edging Gornay by .21 seconds. Brown, who will swim at Arizona State next year, notched a time of 49.16 seconds, over a full second better than his CIF-championship time of a year ago. Gornay finished in 49.37 seconds.

Both swimmers also added a third-place finish to their credit tonight, with Brown taking third in the 200 freestyle and Gornay getting the bronze in the 100 butterfly.

Cajon senior Katie Braun finished a mere .05 seconds short of winning a CIF title in the 100 freestyle at the Division 4 meet, as she was barely outtouched by Alverno's Kali Kearns, who swam a 54.81 to Braun's 54.86. Still not a bad way to end her CIF-SS career, as that time puts her in Tuesday's CIF-Masters meet.

It didn't take the Citrus Valley girls swim program too long to net a CIF championship, as its 200 medley relay team just took the gold with a time of 1:52.47 at the CIF-SS Division 4 meet at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach. The team of junior Kahiwa Hollands, freshman Julia Zhao, sophomore Kailee Mora and junior Natasha Fares won by nearly four seconds, helped by Mora's torrid 26.16 in the butterfly in leg 3, which opened up what had been a nip-and-tuck race with La Salle to that point

Alta Loma sophomore Andy Anderson finished fourth in the CIF-SS Division 2 diving championships on Tuesday at Fullerton College. Anderson, the Baseline League champion, scored 386 points on Tuesday to build on his seventh-place finish as a freshman in last season's CIF championships.

Connor Webb of Los Osos scored 293 points to finish 11th while Anderson's teammate Chris Olsen placed 17th with a score of 202.

Los Osos' Tyler Beck finished 19th (187) and Scott Clawson 29th (100) while the Upland duo of Scott Mackay (115) and Dustin Borges (113) finished 23rd and 24th, respectively. Claremont's Keaton Hutchins placed 31st (98).

On the girls side, Los Osos sophomore Mia Goings, part of a trio from the school that swept the podium at the Baseline League finals last week, was the Inland Valley's top finisher. Goings, the Baseline League champion, placed 12th at the CIF championships with a score of 348.

Los Osos teammate Devon Weston finshed 16th (325) and Desirae Aussef 23rd (141) after the two finished second and third, respectively, at the Baseline League finals. Upland's Danielle Tomes placed 20th (213) and Claremont's Piper Moore 29th (128).
