Smith to sign with UCR

Colton senior golfer Ryan Smith will sign a National Letter of Intent with UC Riverside Wednesday at 7 a.m. at the high school according to a text message sent Monday by Colton athletic director Harold Strauss. Smith has been the top golfer for the Yellowjackets since arriving on campus as a freshman and has averaged in the mid-to-high 30s per nine holes for Colton this year.

While football got almost all of the National Signing Day coverage Wednesday, Los Osos had two water polo players - Dominic Vicino and Matt Wong - sign letters of intent to the Air Force Academy. Wong and Vicino were key components in Los Osos' CIF championship team as sophomores in 2008, along with their CIF finalist team in 2009 and this year's team, which lost in the semifinals. Vicino was the MVP of the Southern California High School All-Star game this past season as well.

Yucaipa duo to sign

Its not a Fall Signing Period without some input from the Yucaipa baseball team, which will have two players signing this week. First baseman Wyatt Padgett will sign with BYU while outfielder Brian Derryberry will sign with UC Riverside at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a voicemail I received from YHS athletic director Mark Anderson.

Any other coaches, athletic directors or parents who have athletes signing with Division I schools this week should e-mail me at tj.berka@inlandnewspapers.com or comment on this blog. We don't want to miss anyone.

Before going into further playoff scenario entries, complete with awesome commentary, a couple of things we have to clear up from yesterday.

First of all, Redlands East Valley baseball player David Andriese is going to UC Riverside, not UC Santa Barbara as we published yesterday. I apologize for that error.

Also, due to a snafu with our phones and with communication in general, Redlands High School wasn't able to call in its water polo playoff spot yesterday. The Terriers defeated Bell Gardens 21-2 in the first round of the Division III playoffs yesterday at RHS, led by a five-goal performance from Joe Barich and three goals each from Jared Miller and Drew Chamberlain.

The Terriers travel to Laguna Beach High School at 3:15 tomorrow for a quarterfinal matchup with the No. 4 seed. Redlands dropped an earlier match to Laguna tonight, so a victory tomorrow would be huge in its quest for two straight CIF titles.
