Emergency workers preparing to house firefighters
American Red Cross workers prepared to feed and house more than 100 firefighters who battled a pair of blazes in south Ontario from Sunday night into Monday morning. The Westwind Community Center in Ontario, also being used to accommodate evacuees from the Walker and Kellogg fires, had 150 cots set up for firefighters to get some rest.
"They’re going to be sleeping here until their next shift,” said Diane Tarazi, shelter manager.
None of the 60 evacuated residents used the center to stay the night, but workers were ready for them. Workers also set up beds in another room for various medical needs including flushing the smoke and dust out of the firefighters’ eyes.
