5 points all that seperated Upland from bowl game?

With two quarters left in its regular season on Nov. 13, the Upland High School football team found itself trailing Claremont in a game that would determine fourth place in the Baseline League, a position that didn't even offer an automatic playoff berth.

Six weeks, four playoff victories and a CIF championship later, Upland coach Tim Salter surmised that 2- and 3-point losses may have cost the Highlanders a trip to one of the state-championship bowl games played last Saturday. Though its defensive style made for plenty of close contests during a 12-2 season, Upland's losses to Etiwanda (18-16) and Rancho Cucamonga (34-31) ended up being its only blemishes of the season.

"I think if we don't lose those two games," Salter said, "We play in the bowl game."

Oh so true. I firmly believe that Upland should have made it either way. Their tenacious defense is good enough to stop any of those teams in the state championships.

yet, thier tenacious defense wasnt good enough against the Etiwanda Eagles... The best team in the Baseline League that under achieved.

Before every big game all we heard was upland's D-FENCE was to small to stop the bigger o-line of all other baseline teams. What a joke Upland might not have the biggest O-line or Linebackers but good luck trying to run against them.Just ask colony. They shut down everybody they faced. Not only with speed but with strength. They are to fast and to strong to run against. With all the juniors waiting there turn they will make a run at CIF again next year.

Not good enough to stop etiwanda by two points but good enought to smash the teams that killed etiwanda (osos and chino hills). I would rather have the ring in the end then a patch for league.

Come on folks which team would Upland replace from the Bowl entries. First Farrar thinks he has a shot and now Salter does too? At least Farrar was undefeated with one tie on his resume. Upland couldn't beat Serra or Marin Catholic this year, and that's pretty much the facts.

Upland's D-Fence could play with any team. There offence well thats another story.Besides look what happen to Edison in the rain.Never know who will win thats why they play the game.
