Chino Hills' Ifo Ekpre-Olomu a centralizing force

This kid may be the most dynamic player left in the CIF-SS Central Division playoffs, and that's saying something considering he's got company who will be playing at USC and Oregon, to name a couple. Ekpre-Olomu's 5-TD, 3-interception performance in a 35-14 quarterfinal win over Etiwanda on Friday - that set up a semifinal against Upland - was quite a statement but far from the first for the junior.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder, who does (I would say a little, but it's a lot of...) everything, is Chino Hills' leading receiver and second-leading rusher thanks to 202 yards on the ground Friday. It was obvious he was going to be special when he nabbed a school-record eight interceptions as a sophomore. Interesting that Friday's three picks were his first of this season, undoubtedly a reflection of teams throwing away from his side of the field.
Though Ekpre-Olomu was a one-man show last week, he appears to have ample talent around him to lead Chino Hills to a CIF title, including heady veteran quarterback Ryan Verdugo and an athletic front seven on defense. After his most recent performance, it will be interesting to see how much attention will be devoted to him in Upland's game plan.

Clay,
Glad to see you back on the Husky train, after predicting that we could not make it the semi finals. If Upland tries to swarm the new "Nigerian Nightmare", they will leave our other weapons ungaurded. The Huskies are a football team peaking at the right time, and they feel it. Friday nights contest will see two great teams fight it out for a chance to play for the Title.
Go Huskies!
pac 10 for sure..what about upland?
Upland Fan
Clay your talking non sense our defense is fast and phisical we are not scared of the "NIGERIAN NIGHTMARE"
Hoping that Clay's acknowledgement of Ifo is not like the SI jinx. He highlighted the running back from Chaffey High School last week and Upland High beat Chaffey. Stay focused Huskies win on Friday and one more win and you will be CIF Champs.
Clay, Great to see your acknowledgement of another Great Chino Hills High
Football Team. Just as you pointed out, Ifo is surrounded by a plethora of talent on both sides of the ball. There’s no “One Man Show” going on over at CHHS. And even though they have had to have a couple of guys go both ways due to injuries in key positions, they still have enough depth and balance to take on anyone in the Central Division, anytime, anywhere.
They have so many ways to attack you. You shut down Ifo, and they’ll run all over you with Harris or Verdugo. If you key in on the run, Verdugo will open it up hitting any one of the dozen talented receivers they have on their team. Their O-Line just dominated Etiwanda in last week’s game.
Defensively the Huskies are the strongest they’ve been all season. Just ask Etiwanda who had been averaging 34 points a game and barely managed 14 against the quick and athletic Chino Hills studs. Ever since Ifo opened up his sophomore year leading the state with 8 interceptions, 6 games into the season, opponents have been avoiding throwing anywhere near him. Etiwanda was the first team to try in a season in a half and look what happened (3 picks for Ifo Ekpre-Olomu).
Now, I know the Scotties also have a great defense as well; probably the next best in the Central Division. But, that won’t be enough to overcome the high powered Husky Offense and superior Defense.
Chino Hills 24, Upland 17 (Honestly, who would ever pick a Scottie over a Husky???)
Nate "WHO" The Harris era was over in 2007 no need to key on him ... PS "OVERRATED" Scotty not talented at all drops open passes.I followed chhs for long time you will win by verdugo and your Defensive.
upland fan
honestly do u no who ur playing against were the highlanders theres no way a husky from garbage chino hills will beat us we will have no problem if we control ekpre-olomu and on offense we will make auston johnson wanna be cif d-lineman and josh rottler we win
ps. those three pickes by ekpre were lucky upland 42 chino hills 7
Upland Fan, you need spell check and a few vowels, really! Stay in school kid.
Clay, that was a timely close up on a great player. He is a special talent that this league is lucky to have. He is quiet, humble and so gifted. As a Husky fan I am glad he is on our side and we don't have to face him. If he is not dashing through the defense, he's laying the wood to receivers coming across the middle or picking off the passes most QB's think they have a chance of completing.
The Huskies are multi-dimensional on both sides of the ball and will show it against a good defense. They (what are they??) Scots/Highlanders, have never seen a D like this before. They are very strong, very fast and quick, and they hit like no team in the Central Division. Ask Eti if their bruises are still turning purple.
Huskies 28 - Upland 14
Go Huskies!
I firmly believe that the Central division championship is wide open, and I will not be surprised if any of the four remaining teams win the championship. That being said, I'll throw in my two cents about those remaining teams.
I have seen Upland (against Glendora), Rancho Cucamonga (against Charter Oak), and Chino Hills (against Colony, Ayala, Damien, Elsinore, and Etiwanda). Prior to the playoffs, I didn't think that Chino Hills could compete with the "big boys" of the Baseline league. Of course that all changed last week with their dominating performance over Etiwanda (preventing an "all Baseline" final four). However, Upland, the "at large" bid in the playoffs, is only a few plays away from being undefeated. That's neither here nor there, but my point is that you should not let their "at large" status fool you. Upland could easily win the whole thing. They have a great defense and I think that they may actually match up with Chino Hills better than Etiwanda did.
Chino Hills, though, is definitely peaking at the right time. They really seem to be hitting on all cylinders and it's going to be extremely tough for anyone to beat them. Earlier in the year they were somewhat erratic and had trouble putting teams away (see the loss to Glendora at HOME and the close victory over an inferior Ayala team). They seem to have put that all behind them. They have absolutely dominated their first two CIF games. Upland will have their hands full.
On the other side of the bracket, I think that a focused Rancho Cucamonga team will be out to avenge its earlier loss to Los Osos. Los Osos made a huge statement in winning the Baseline league after a very tough pre-season, but it is extremely tough to beat a team twice in the same year (let alone a rival team of the caliber of Rancho Cucamonga).
Predictions:
Friday night - Chino Hills 24, Upland 14
Saturday night - Rancho Cucamonga 34, Los Osos 28
Chino Hills vs. Rancho Cucamonga in the finals will be a GREAT GAME.
It seems that just about every educated person on this blog is of the opinion that Chino Hills will when this Friday; except of course the “Upland Fan”. But then again, I did qualify that statement with the word “educated”. I certainly hope he’s not a representative product of the Upland “HIGH”– landers. Seriously kid, see if you can get your older brother over to the laptop to write something intelligent on behalf of his school. I think even your third grade teacher would be ashamed of your prose.
Here, let me see if I can help you:
Upland Fan
Honestly, do you know who you are playing against? We’re the Highlanders. There’s no way a Husky, from gorgeous Chino Hills will beat us. We will have no problem if we control Ekpre-Olomu. And, on offense, we will make Austin Johnson become an All CIF D-lineman and Josh Rottler will win the Defensive MVP award.
P.S. Those three picks by Ekpre-Olomu were lucky not to have been run back for touchdowns.
Chino Hills 42, Upland 7
Sincerely kid, if you can’t get a better handle your education, I don’t even think there will be room for you in my field. But of course there may be an opening for you in Garbage Collection down here in Chino Hills.
jano,
that boy ifo is always talking trash, u guys don't see it. joe the plumber is correct the harris era has been over, verdugo hasn't proved anything this season so far. the only consistent force on the chhs team is there d line. ryan q, auston j, and brad b. and thier linebacking core espically josh r, who is having an fantastic season. i see upland getting no where and chhs offense getting nowhere. i predict 2-0 chino hills. chino hills wins by a safety and strong d
yall suck every city team would beat them no problems cuz. crenshaw would bang chino hills, lil evil would run up on every block spray the whole neighborhood cuz. yall can win this game don't matter aint none yall trying to play wit a city squad
all i got to say scott suks he got hawked in the los osos game wit a 20 yr head start. how this kid supposed to be an impact player that chino hills great star at reciver. i would put nut in before him. nate harris im embrass to include him as a rb has even had 100 yards in game. but upland is decent should be a alright game ill be there

Yo Jano,
Just want to set the record straight... It wasn't I who had any negative words about Harris and Verdugo. Quite the contrary, I must say. I predict you’ll see major contributions on offense from Harris, Ekpre_Olomu, Verdugo and a handful of the many talented receivers this week and next.
But, I couldn’t agree with you more regarding your comments about the CHHS defense, brother. They’re awesome now, playing as one, and getting stronger every week. I can’t believe they’re pulling this off without Robles. It’s like I said earlier, there’s depth on this team and the entire Husky Nation (even those that have been sidelined) are now pulling together to get this job done.
Say what you will about the strength of the Baseline League, but that means nothing to the future Champions over at CHHS. Even though the school is in its infancy, they have surmounted an incredible win/loss record against Baseline teams. Check the record books.
They’re not going to be intimidated by anyone in the Baseline League, let alone anyone else in the Central Division (or anyone in the City Leagues either). As I said earlier; anyone, anytime, anywhere.
Peace-Out,
Joe the Plumber
To Joe the plummer CHHS has nothin on upland we where the wild card and we faught are way her Nobodys scaared of the chinohills puppys and dont even bing crenshaw and city teams in this u know they would rock you Put chinohills up against Crenshaw high a** woopin comin Anywhere , anytime , anyone my a** thats horse S***
peace out,
Coach ???
I can only hope that the above noted supporters of Upland High School are purposely misspelling words and speaking in ghetto slang. Talking trash and jiving does not add credibility to what you are saying, it only makes it more difficult to figure out what you are saying. Bottom line is that both Chino Hills and Upland High School have strong teams and it will be a hard fought game which in all likelihood will be a close game which will go down to the final minutes of the game before the game is decided. I do not see a blow-out.
Good luck to both teams.
Lets just watch the game friday night! Good luck to both teams and hope each stays injury free!
OK first of all Upland Fan, you really need to take your soft helmet off before you start blogging. I think it is getting in the way of vision, because you can't spell worth your IQ.
And secondly, Crenshaw, maybe you can take the small bus to school with Upland Fan and save on some gas.
Neither one of you make any sense. This is a blog about the greatness of Ifo and his accomplishments. This is not a posting of random thoughts or brain farts. Make a point, check your spelling, look at the punctuation and hit post. Real simple.
Huskies 28 - Crenshaw/Upland 14

The Nigerian Nightmare will be ready to roll come friday. So be ready to strap your helmet extra tight, cause he's gonna rock. We'll be moving those chains all night long.
