I.E vs. SGV baseball tournament in the works
Bonita baseball coach John Knott is organizing a baseball tournament for next season pitting the Inland Empire's best high school baseball teams against those from the San Gabriel Valley.
A 32-team bracket set to face off next March has filled more than halfway already with commitments from Inland Empire schools such as Redlands East Valley, Alta Loma, Rancho Cucamonga, Los Osos, Damien and Diamond Ranch. San Gabriel Valley schools already committed include Covina Northview, Covina Charter Oak and West Covina South Hills.
"We think it could create some really good rivalries between the San Gabriel Valley and the Inland Empire," Knott said. "There are already some rivalries there but we hope this will help them grow. There's a lot of good baseball in those two areas and we want to showcase that."
The tournament is attempting to arrange games at venues including the Epicenter in Rancho Cucamonga, Mt. San Antonio College and the University of California at Riverside.
The tournament will include varsity, junior varsity and freshman-team brackets.
"We heard that about 1,500 people showed up for a South Hills-Bishop Amat game earlier this year," Knott said. "Imagine if we can get some night games at some of these bigger stadiums. We're expecting a great atmosphere for baseball."

Hello Clay,
I hoping you can assist us.
I need to know which high School team in the area will be i need of varisity pitchers/corner infielder next year. My son will be coming from Utah for his senior year and we would like to chose a school that he would be able to get play time. He is very good pitcher,6'2' 190 lbs. I was trying to figure it out myself using max-prep and see who is pitching seniors and what not but thought you would have better knowlegde than that. Upland, alta loma, bonita?? Also considering Western Christian. Let me know what you think. It will be very much appreciatated.
thanks
Etiwanda would be a great choice. They just made the Finals in Division 2 and they are losing 11 seniors. They will probably need some pitching help and their coach is one of the best in the area. He's young and just turned the program around. Give them a look.
