A defendant suspected in the fatal shooting of Hannah "Honey" Jordan pleaded not guilty to charges presented during a formal arraignment Tuesday. A trial date was set for late November.
Hector Miguel Aguirre faces charges of murder and carjacking, which could net him 65 years to life in state prison if he is convicted in Jordan's death.
Aguirre, 25, sat stoically in the jury box among other inmates awaiting the arraignment in San Bernardino Superior Court. He was scheduled to return to court on Nov. 9 for a pretrial hearing, confirmed Deputy District Attorney Robert Bulloch. Jury trial was set for Nov. 26, however lawyers in the case were unsure if that date would hold given schedules and upcoming holidays.
The suspected gunman, Aguirre is accused of shooting Jordan and taking her Chrysler 300 in front of a Highland Avenue doughnut shop on Dec. 31, 2001, according to San Bernardino Police. Aguirre fled to Mexico but was extradited to United States in July 2006, per court records.
A key witness in the case is co-defendant, Ruben Garcia, took a plea bargain that was ordered sealed in April 2006.
