SAN BERNARDINO - Former Redlands city treasurer Mike Reynolds pleaded guilty to a single count of altering a public record today in San Bernardino Superior Court.

The charge is a felony. Reynolds agreed to a penalty of three years probation, plus 30 days in county jail. He will also pay restitution of about $38,000.

The charges stem a 2007 District Attorney's investigation of Reynolds' office. Prosecutors concluded that Reynolds improperly transferred about $38,000 to cover up a shortage in the city's petty cash fund.

The plea deal made a point of noting that Reynolds was not charged with stealing the money. What happened to the missing petty cash is unknown.
