Gunman sentenced to 23 years in fatal Ontario Denny's shooting
RANCHO CUCAMONGA -- The accused triggerman in a killing outside an Ontario Denny's restaurant was sentenced to 23 years in prison this morning in West Valley Superior Court.
Roland Curtis McFoy, 28, and a group of five other men were initially arrested in connection with the March 16, 2006 shooting death of 37-year-old Michael Terrance Blair of Pomona.
The group of men were trying to rob Blair at about 2 a.m. in the parking lot of the restaurant, located in the 1400 block of East Fourth Street, according to prosecutors.
Blair resisted the the robbery attempt, and was shot several times by McFoy, said Deputy District Attorney Tom Colclough.
Some of the other men charged in connection with the shooting kicked Blair after he fell to the ground, Colclough said.
Blair died at a Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton shortly after the attack.
McFoy agreed to plead guilty in June to charges of voluntary manslaughter and robbery as part of a plea deal offered by prosecutors. He was sentenced this morning by Judge Katrina West.
Four of the other men involved in the attack have also accepted plea deals from prosecutors. Chargers were not filed against one of the six men initially arrested.
Christopher Lee Lewis, 26, of Fontana, was sentenced in June to 9 years in prison.
The three other men charged in connection, all of whom have also accepted plea deals, are Alphonso Fuller, 28, Alphonso Green, 27, and Handy Edward Blocker, 31.
The plea deals call for a 7-year prison sentence for Fuller and a 12-year sentence for Blocker, Colclough said.
The sentencing portion of Green's plea deal -- in which he agreed to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and robbery charges -- was left open-ended, meaning a judge will decide his sentence, Colclough said.
Blocker, Fuller and Green are scheduled to be formally sentenced in West Valley Superior Court on Sept. 25.
The five men must together pay $7,500 in restitution to Blair's family.
