Injunction sought against six street gangs in Los Angeles

I know this wire story is based outside the Inland Empire, but gang members from Los Angeles often come to San Bernardino County, according to the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The City Attorney's Office sought an injunction today that would prevent members of six South Los Angeles gangs from associating in public or possessing weapons and graffiti tools.

The injunction names the All for Crime, Barrio Mojados, Blood Stone Villains, Florencia 13, Oriental Boys and Pueblo Bishops gangs in a 13.2-square- mile area referred to as the Florence-Pueblo Del Rio Safety Zone. That area is bounded by Washington Boulevard to the north and Manchester Avenue to the south, and from San Pedro and Vernon in the northwest to San Pedro and Alameda Street to the east.

"This proposed injunction and safety zone have been carefully tailored to address the continuing problem of gang violence by six notorious street gangs in South L.A.," said City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo.

"With this injunction my prosecutors and the LAPD will have an important tool they can use to suppress ongoing gang violence and help start the healing process in this community," Delgadillo said.

Members of Florencia 13, a primarily Latino gang, are part of a federal racketeering case that is scheduled to go to trial Sept. 26. Federal prosecutors accuse them of drug trafficking and shooting blacks in South Los Angeles to gain control of those neighborhoods.

The injunction would prevent gang members from associating in public, intimidating witnesses, selling or possessing drugs and possessing weapons or graffiti tools.

A hearing on the injunction is set for Sept. 10 in Los Angeles Superior Court.
