SAN BERNARDINO - A Superior Court judge ordered Shannon Lee McDonald held on charges stemming from the deadly beating of the defendant's elderly employer during court proceedings Monday.

McDonald, who was extradited to this county from Neosho, Mo. in April, faces charges in the death of 71-year-old Charles Bosley, who was severly beaten in the bedroom of his Redlands home on June 24, 2007.

The attack on Bosley happened during the early morning hours at his house in the 32000 block of Florida Street. Bosley suffered from diabetes and heart problems.

An employee and housemate of Bosely for several months, McDonald initially told Redlands Police he had been asleep on the couch and was awakened when the attack happened. But police later said DNA evidence showed McDonald beat Bosely.

McDonald, 34, returns to court Sept. 17 to be formally arraigned on the charges, according to the District Attorney's Office.
