Sentencing delayed in Bloomington pitbull attack

| | Comments (0)

Sentencing for a Bloomington youth who sicced his pitbull on an young boy in January 2007 was delayed by a week when his defense lawyer could not be in court.

Paul Hicklin III, who was 17 years old at the time and charged as an adult, was expected to be sentenced to four years in a state correctional facility during proceedings Thursday in Fontana Superior Court.

However, Hicklin's lawyer, Deputy Public Defender David Sanders was not able to be in court and the sentencing was postponed to Oct. 2. The reason for Sanders' absence was not immediately available.

The sentence was part of a plea bargain reached between the defendant and prosecutors at a hearing before Judge Stephan G. Saleson on Aug. 21.

Fontana Police say Hicklin deliberately released his pit bull on then 8-year-old Dakoda Mitchell outside the defendant's Via De Anza home on Jan. 30, 2007.
