Trial postponed for driver in Soboba Casino heist
A trial has been postponed for the alleged getaway driver Eric Alan Magdale Aguilera in last year's $1.5 million Soboba Casino heist.
A trial for Aguilera, who appeared today in Superior Court, in Murrietta, was re-scheduled for Oct. 31 because his lawyer, Jennifer Bender, is engaged in another trial, according to court records.
In meantime, Aguilera is set to return to court Sept. 22 for a trial readiness hearing.
Authorities say co-defendant Rolando Luda Ramos, a security technician at Soboba Casino for two years, pulled out a gun, hog-tied three of his co-workers and escaped with $1.5 million in August 2007. Aguilera is the suspected getaway driver.
In the meantime, Ramos is awaiting the outcome of a third mental competency evaluation to determine if he is fit for trial. The defense raised the issue of Ramos' mental competence at a hearing on May 9.
The latest doctor, Robert Suiter, is expected to return a written report to the court on Sept. 21. A hearing to review the report is also set for Sept. 22, court records indicate.
