Verdicts reached, sealed on two of three defendants in Macon trial
Jurors will begin deliberating Monday morning after having reached verdicts on two of the three defendants on trial for the shooting death of 20-year-old Edward Griffin.
Lawyers in the case of Patrick Shaun Macon, Marsean Lamont Macon and Norris Anthony Crawford were alerted Friday that the jury had reached verdicts for two of the men but were unable to do so for the third in San Bernardino Superior Court, according to court records.
Judge Ronald Christianson gave a written reponse to the jury, ordered the two verdicts sealed and recessed the jury for the weekend. The jury was ordered to return to court at 10 a.m. Monday.
The defendants are facing charges in the gang-related shooting death of Griffin at Medical Center Drive and Ninth Street, in San Bernardino, on Feb. 9, 2007.
Prosecutors say the three defendants were in a red Saturn that pulled up to a car containing Griffin and another man at the intersection. Gunshots were fired into the victim's vehicle, killing Griffin and wounding the other man.
Unbeknownst to the suspects, police were nearby on an unrelated traffic stop.
