Fontana man found guilty in 2006 murder case

A 22-year-old Fontana man was found guilty of murder today for the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Heather Marie Montoya in August 2006.

Sergio Moreno was found guilty in a Fontana courtroom of first degree murder, two counts of premeditated attempted murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle and gun charges, said Deputy District Attorney Simon Umscheid.

The car-to-car shooting occurred Monday Aug. 14, 2006 at when Moreno, Salvador Gonzalez Jr., then 19, and Jacque Long, then 25, drove along side the Acura Montoya and two other people occupied.

The shooting left Montoya dead with a bullet wounds in her head and chest, and injured the male driver, Umscheid said. A third female passenger was not injured.

The two other defendants took plea deals and have already been sentenced.

Moreno is facing life to 100 years in prison for the murder.
