A man recently convicted in the shooting death of 20-year-old Edward Griffin is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in San Bernardino Superior Court.

Defendant Patrick Shaun Macon, 28, was convicted by a jury of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter on Sept. 8 in Griffin's death and faces about 30 years in state prison, according to prosecutors.

Macon and two other men were charged with the death of Griffin, who was shot while inside a vehicle at the intersection of Medical Center Drive and Ninth Street, in San Bernardino, on Feb. 9, 2007. Griffin later died at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, in Colton.

Macon's brother, 26-year-old Marsean Lamont Macon, was aquitted of all charges and special allegations in the case. A third man, Norris Anthony Crawford, 29, was found not guilty of the greater charges of murder and attempted murder, but jurors was deadlocked 6-6 on lesser charges against him.

Prosecutors argued the defendants sought payback in shooting Griffin. However, the defense pointed to self-defense. Patrick Macon had previously said he thought Griffin and another man, Keith Slaughter Jr., wanted to shoot him.

In a separate case, Slaughter, 20, was sentenced to 295 years and eight months in state prison on Aug. 12 after a jury convicted him of a pair of shootings, including the May 2006 drive-by slaying of 14-year-old Jarred Mitchell on West Home Avenue.
