An 18-year-old man was sentenced to four years in prison this morning for siccing a pit bull on an 8-year-old boy earlier this year.

Paul Hicklin III accepted a plea bargain Aug. 21 and pleaded no contest to one charge of assault by means to produce great bodily harm.

He was sentenced in Fontana Superior Court by Judge Jon Ferguson for the Jan. 30 attack on Dakoda Mitchell, who was bitten in the face and thigh, outside a residence in Bloomington. The boy had to undergo several surgeries and will likely have permanent injuries from the attack.

Hicklin, who was 17-years-old at the time of the attack, was charged as an adult by prosecutors.
