A woman suspected of dumping a stolen vehicle and leaving a 16-year-old dog named Rebel inside to die is scheduled for a court appearance today in Riverside.

Gabriela Adela Briones, 31, faces felony charges of vehicle theft, receiving a stolen vehicle and cruelty to animals and is scheduled for a hearing today in Riverside Superior Court.

Briones is suspected of stealing a Ford Excursion from Mary Michael and her husband while the couple visited Riverside National Cemetery on Aug. 16. Inside the vehicle was Rebel, a wolf and Malamute mix, who was left to die when Briones got to her destination and locked the vehicle with the windows up, according to authorities.

Police found the Excursion the next day in Moreno Valley.

Briones was assisted in the vehicle theft by suspect Michael Deharo, who also is scheduled to appear in court today. Another man, Rhett Hermanson, was suspected of cashing checks taken from the Excursion.
