Lynwood man guilty in 2006 drug debt murders in Yucaipa

A jury found a Lynwood man guilty of murder in the 2006 deadly shooting of two men along Live Oak Canyon Road in Yucaipa over a drug debt.

Jurors deliberated six hours and found defendant Alberto "Beto" Oropeza Delgadillo guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 53-year-old Pedro Sanchez and Salvador Felix, 31, prosecutors confirmed Friday.

The verdicts were returned Wednesday afternoon in San Bernardino Superior Court. Delgadillo faces 50 years to life in state prison when he is sentenced Jan. 14.

The jury, however, did not find true special allegations in the charging complaint for the use of a firearm, court records indicate. So while Delgadillo was found guilty of murder, jurors did not find that he used a firearm, prosecutors explained.

The defense had argued vigorously that another man, known only as "Javier," was really responsible for the deaths.

Authorities found the men's bodies in a dirt turnout in the 32000 block of Live Oak Canyon Road during the evening of Dec. 18, 2006. Residents in the area called Sheriff's deputies after hearing gunshots. The location is a mile south of the 10 Freeway.
