A man found guilty in the car-to-car shooting death of a 19-year-old Fontana woman will be sentenced Dec. 3 in Fontana Superior Court.

A jury found Sergio Moreno, 22, guilty of murder in the death of Heather Marie Montoya who was traveling with two friends in a vehicle on Citrus Avenue, in Fontana, when gunshots were fired in August 2006.

Moreno was also found guilty of two counts of attempted murder and of one count of shooting at an inhabited vehicle, according to Superior Court records. The jury returned the verdicts on Oct. 29.

Jurors could not reach a decision on a special allegation charged to the defendant which alleged the crime was committed to benefit a street gang.

A conviction on a murder charge alone generally carries a sentence of 25 years to life sentence in state prison, according to the California Penal Code.

Two other defendants in the case, Salvador Gonzalez, 22, and Jacque Louisa Long, 27, pleaded guilty earlier in the case and are scheduled to be sentenced in January.
