A High Desert woman who struck her sleeping husband in the head with a meat cleaver pleaded not guilty to charges at an arraignment Tuesday in Victorville Superior Court.

Olivia Geatian, 33, faces charges of attempted murder and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse, according to Superior Court records. She returns to court Monday for a pre-preliminary hearing.

Geatian was arrested Sunday after family members called Sheriff's deputies to the couple's Oro Grande home in the 14000 block of Marigold Street, in unincorporated San Bernardino County.

After a family party earlier that day, Geatian allegedly used a meat cleaver to strike her sleeping husband in the head three times, according to Sheriff's officials. No motive was known.

The husband was taken to a hospital were he reportedly received stitches and staples to his forehead, authorities said.
